Time to assess last year’s reading and make some plans for this year!

Reading in 2016

My reading goals in 2016  looked something like this:

1. Read 50 books

2. Complete the PopSugar 2016 Reading Challenge

2016ReadingChallenge

3. Read at least 3 classics from new-to-me authors

And here’s what I accomplished:

Read 50 books

Not a problem. I reached my goal in November and finished the year with 57. That’s down significantly from the year before, but still a victory.

Also, I read 18,345 pages last year.

Here’s a link to everything I read in 2016.

Complete the PopSugar 2016 Reading Challenge

I read a book for every category, with only two books counted twice. The challenge was rough and I struggled with a few categories. There were times I felt I was reading because it was required instead of fun, which was disappointing. But overall, it was a good stretch.

Read at least 3 classics from new-to-me authors

I read 2 books from one new-to-me author. I failed this one.

Stack Of Colorful Falling BooksHow Many Stars?

  • 5 stars: 4 books (including one re-read)
  • 4 stars: 30 books
  • 3 stars: 20 books
  • 2 stars: 3 books
  • 1 star: 0 books
  • 0 stars: 2 books (both books I started and abandoned)

Reading in 2016

1. Read 40 books

Last year, I thought I’d read a lot and also accomplish some writing. I did, but this year I’m working on a solid writing project so I’ve set a smaller reading goal.

2. Complete the Rhymes with Croatia 2017 Reading Challenge

There are only 24 categories and I’ve tried to choose some with wide application.

3. Decrease my TBR

Whether that’s through reading or purging, I want my physical unread books to fit on two shelves. Right now, they’re spilling out everywhere.

My current TBR stands at 88 unread physical books and 29 unread Kindle books. I’m not far off from where I started last year, though I need to verify if I still own all of those books – I keep purging but then I keep buying more…

Here’s to another year of diverse reading in 2017!
