croatiacoatofarmsRhymes with Croatia, that’s a silly name for a blog.

Yes, you’re right, it’s probably a silly name for a blog.

Is it a political statement? A statement about your heritage?

No, it’s a statement about the pronunciation of my first name. When I meet people online, they often ask how to pronounce my name. Not for a lack of trying, the best I’ve come up with is to tell them that Stacia rhymes with Croatia.

Of course, there are those of you out there who might think you’ve known me for a very long time and you were almost certain my name was Stacey. (Note: Only one of you has ever actually asked about this. Bravo, John!) Well, sure. Technically. And technically, my husband’s name is Michael but most people call him Mike. Most people call me Stacia. I prefer it.

And when I publish my first novel and the amazing Colin Firth thanks me in his acceptance speech for writing the book that inspired his latest Oscar-winning performance, he will pronounce my name correctly. Because he knows that it rhymes with Croatia.

You won’t think it’s so silly then.
