Welcome to Friday Reads. Each Friday, I’ll review any books I’ve completed that week, as well as share what I’m reading right now. And by “Each Friday,” I mean “some Fridays.”

Finished:

Where the Crawdads Sing – Delia Owens – 3.75* (Feb 13)

I’m not entirely sure how to rate this book. It made me cry but I also really disliked some parts.

It’s told in two timelines, though the first rapidly catches up to the second. The first follows Kya from 6 years old and her life is mostly terrible. Everything was so negative that I had trouble connecting with her. The more recent timeline began with a suspicious death and I found that much more interesting. As the earlier timeline caught up, I began to enjoy it more.

I was left with a lot of unanswered questions about what happened to some people and why certain behaviors weren’t questioned. My favorite character has to be Sunday Justice, who is a cat behaving very much like a cat. I enjoyed him a lot.

Currently Reading:

No Matter the Wreckage – Sarah Kay & Sophia Janowitz (20%)

I haven’t made any more progress on this little book but I’d like to be finished with it by next Friday/the end of the month.

A Gentleman in Moscow – Amor Towles (7%)

Much like the other book I read by Towles (Rules of Civility), the writing is lovely but I’m completely disinterested. It needs to pick up quickly or it will be my first DNF of 2019.
