April was probably the worst reading month I’ve had in years. Even though I kept up with my daily reading goal, I only managed to finish one book. Yikes.

April goal:

April’s goal? I’m well into an audiobook but I’m also reading Persuasion and classics tend to go slowly for me. I’ll commit to 3 books this month.

What I read:

In-progress:

  • MeElton John
    • Audiobook 🎧
    • 91%

Abandoned:

2025 Note: I quit linking titles to that big site that funds the rich dude and fascism a while ago. I’ve been linking to Goodreads, but the same guy owns that, so I linked to Storygraph this month. Regardless, I recommend supporting independent bookstores. My favorite is Old Town Books (they ship!). You can also support my favorite podcast through their Bookshop.org link at KickBezosInTheBalls.org (or pick a local shop of your choosing). And you can never go wrong with your local library!

2025 Progress

Star Ratings:

Based on the flat stars, not the quarter stars I assign in my reviews.

  • 5 stars: 1 book
  • 4 stars: 5 books
  • 3 stars: 6 books
  • 2 stars: 0 books
  • 1 star: 0 books
  • 0 stars: 0 books
  • Abandoned: 1 book
  • Not rated: 0 books

Pages Read/Hours Listened:

(Does not include partial books, abandoned books, or edited manuscripts)

  • January – 1359p, 4h 13m
  • February – 766p, 8h 0m
  • March –  1475p*, 15h 49m
  • April – 0p, 4h 22m

*Note: Storygraph has a slightly different number because they count what they think I actually read each day based on when I update my progress. I always count the entire book in the month it was completed, even if I read everything but the last page in the previous month.

Reading Goals:

Read 36 books

I finished 1 book toward my Goodreads Challenge and I’m on schedule.

  • Audiobooks: 6
  • Kindle: 5
  • Physical books: 0

*Note: I edited a book in April/May and read those 297 pages 3 times in the process, so I feel like I could count another 3 books and 891 pages toward my total.

Decrease my TBR

Read 25 minutes per day

April 30 was Day 1323 of my reading streak.

As I said above, April was not great for finishing books. I spent a lot of time trying to read Persuasion (Jane Austen) and just couldn’t get into it. I also spent around 30 hours editing a book, which included reading it 3 times. I find it hard to read for pleasure when I’m also reading for work. And then I listened to most of Elton John’s autobiography. It’s not that I wasn’t reading—I just wasn’t completing.

May’s goal? April was pathetic, so I’m going to commit to 2 books in May.

As always, you can find me online to see what I’m reading:
